Woman Enters Guilty Plea in Fatal Arizona, New Mexico Auto Crash Case

A case resulting from a fatal New Mexico auto accident neared its conclusion in federal court late last month, after Miranda Rentz, a 40-year-old from Red Valley, Arizona, pleaded guilty to the charges against her.

Rentz was driving through San Juan County in January of 2015, when she collided head-on with another car, killing one person and severely injuring the other.

According to court documents, Rentz entered a guilty plea to charges of assault and involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors allege she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

Rentz faces a potential ten year prison term for assault resulting in severe bodily injury, in addition to another eight year sentence for the involuntary manslaughter charge.

Car accidents occur with increasing frequency across the country, and can lead to additional tragedy, such as severe personal injury or even death. Drivers need to always exercise care when behind the wheel to avoid these tragedies.

Car Accident Claims in New Mexico

Auto accidents can occur virtually anywhere, at any time. While some only have minor consequences, car accidents have the potential to cause lasting, devastating damage. That’s why many states have traffic guidelines that emphasize a driver’s responsibility to exercise reasonable caution when sharing roads or freeways with other vehicles.

But accidents still happen. With auto-related crashes, accidents can range from a basic fender bender to a life-threatening semi-truck crash. Some other common personal injury situations related to car accidents include:

  • Distracted driving, including texting behind the wheel or talking on the phone
  • Drunk driving incidents
  • School zone accidents
  • Seat belt failure
  • Brake failure
  • Product or other manufacturer defect

Typically, these types of cases involve some degree of negligence, which can be argued in a personal injury claim. However, victims of car accidents must also deal with settling insurance claims, a task that has become increasingly difficult across Texas and New Mexico in recent years. That’s where a qualified personal injury attorney comes in.
