Salt Lake City police have identified a Texan as the victim of a fatal accident involving an automobile and a pedestrian in late June.
Late last month, Adrian Gonzalez of Brownsville, Texas, was lying or kneeling in the street when a moving vehicle struck and killed him. The incident occurred in at approximately 3:30 a.m., leaving no other witnesses to the incident, aside from the driver.
It was the driver of the automobile who immediately called police at the scene. According to authorities, the driver was immediately cleared of any wrongdoing, and was not found to be driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol. Police also ruled out speeding at the time of the incident.
It is still not known why Gonzalez, who was wearing all black clothing at the time of his death, was idling in the street. Police indicated that investigators were awaiting further toxicology results, which will determine if Gonzales was impaired by drugs and/or alcohol at the time of his death.
Although police only have pieces of the puzzle at this point in the case, Salt Lake City police have confirmed that the victim was not a transient, and had been working and residing in Salt Lake City for some time.
If You Are a Victim of a Pedestrian Accident
It can be difficult to prove liability in pedestrian incident cases, as evidence typically comes down to unpredictable or conflicting eyewitness accounts. Cases involving children also pose a certain difficulty, as a driver may confuse the children involved with their account of the story. These types of cases come down to two key factors – top-notch investigation and a firm, unwavering, dedication to the truth.
If you or someone you know has been involved in a pedestrian accident, a qualified pedestrian accident attorney can help you build a strong case that will protect your interests and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Since many such accidents involve hit-and-run scenarios, or uninsured motorists, it is important to enlist the assistance of legal counsel.
